Kerala is the topmost state in India to achieve the highest literacy rate; life expectancy for both men and women;lowest infant mortality rate; and other better indices in health and education. But in paradox ,in certain aspects like mental health,we are frighteningly backward.For eg, the highest suicide rate and mental morbidity rate in the state.The rate of alcoholism and divorce rate has increased alarmingly.W.H.O.itself has expressed concern over these negative changes.

            In addition ,many of the infectious illnesses are coming back,like malaria.Other illnesses like Dengue fever,leptospirosis,Chickungunya etc, are occurring in increased proportion.These have been proved to be associated with the environmental pollution.Even though the Keralites are generally careful in cleanliness,they neglect the environmental protecton.Waste disposal is not in hygienic way.So the rats, mosquitos etc,grows and spreads many of the above illnesses.

Keeping these facts in mind, it was decided to start a peoples counselling centre.The primary purpose is to offer the counselling for mental problems,with emphasis against alcoholism and drug addiction, child guidance, family problems etc.
             Arogya counseling centre was inaugurated on 30-7-2007,and it is functioning under a psychiatrist ,Dr.Anandan.
