It was ‘Perumpadappu Swaroopam’ under Kochi Kingdom was holding the ownership of the region .
In the 14th and 15th centuries there was aggressive attacks to this region by Samoodiri( Zamorins) of Kozhikode. Finally the Kochin was seized in 933 –Malayalam era.(1758 AD) by Samoodiri .As most of the land was occupied by them, land lords, and people in this region also turned to Zamorin side; Kochin king was also captured and put into jail. But he cleverly escaped with the help of some vedic pundits. As Samoodiri was a firm believer of Vedas and as the munshis recommended some vedic rituals more to be done with the culprit ,he allowed it. The pundits saved the king and took him along with them as Brahmin in disguise ! Later with the help of Travancore king, Kochin king regained the land by attacking the next Samoodiri . But during the furious TIPPU’S ‘ padayottam’under the captainship of Sardan khan, again these region was captured upto Alwaye river. After this attack ,there was a total disharmony and insecurity among people.Few land lords with some farms were there to control the workers in their land. Mulankunnathukav was also like that. The caste system was strong ,and there was clear division between upper castes and lower castes who were the working class.
Later during the Independence struggle , and communist movement, the new social awareness was created.Social interaction became better.News paper reading especially in the local tea shops and discussion on important news became a custom here,as in almost all Kerala villages .Many reading rooms was established , and these were centres of youths for getting in touch with the outside world through books of Malayalam and other languages translated versions, and organizing for literary &cultural programmes.Dramas and festival programmes were so arranged regularly. Naturally the political orientation was also developed in parallel, without much friction !
