About this temple to start with ,there is a
mythological story. This land was full of bamboos at that time, known as
‘Mulamkunnu’.The people used to cut these bamboos for various
purposes , mainly for making fences. One day when when they were cutting the
bamboo, and started sharpening their weapons on the rock nearby, blood started to
come out of the rock and the man got afraid, and ran away to the nearby place
,where Lord Ayyappa gave him dharsan!
The place where this happened became Mulankunnathukavu, and Ayyappa temple is
situated at the spot of that mysterious rock. The main festival here is
‘Niramala mahotsavam’annually in January month ,which is litting of
‘Nila vilaku’ lights in two rows,in entire length of the pathway to
the temple, and various rituals associated;including ‘ezhunnallip’to
the place where Ayyappa swamy given darsan . It is a real rare vision to see and
pray in trance !
